The Reading Corner Newsletter

November 2020

Whew! We made it through the election and aftermath. I’ve been very distracted, and haven’t gotten as much writing in over the past month as I would have liked. But wow have I been doing research. My notebooks are filling fast with notes on Arizona history and literature. I often say authors have multiple “masters degrees” on myriad topics. I’m one of those authors who loves historical research, so it’s been time spent well in and around watching CNN.

Publishing Journey:

Arizona Authors AssocTime to toot Ada Weeks’s horn! Answer Creek won its first big literary award last week: The Arizona Author Association Literary Contest. The novel is up for about a dozen awards, so I’ll keep you posted.

If you missed any of my recent events, check out two new interviews up on my Media webpage: Peregrine Books, Prescott, AZ and Capital Books, Sacramento, CA.  Many thanks to these bookstores for hosting me and sister author Shelley Blanton-Stroud for facilitating the Sacramento event.

Tidbit:

Don’t you love this title? Jan Cleere’s Levi’s & Lace: Arizona Women Who Made History highlights fascinating and intrepid women who have impacted Arizona’s history: entrepreneurs, educators, artists, and professional women.

Five Star reads:

Untamed, Glennon Doyle
Caste, Isabel Wilkerson
Small Rocks Rising, Susan Lang
The Four Letters of Love, Niall Williams

New Giveaway:

I’m offering a $20 gift certificate to my local bookstore, Seaport Books, for November. Even if you are not local, Janna at Seaport Books will mail your book of choice for free. To enter, use my Contact page and tell me a book on your holiday wish list. With your suggestions, we will build a good list for all our readers that I’ll list in the December newsletter.

Speaking of the holidays, I’m encouraging all my readers to support your local bookstores more than ever this year. Everyone loves books!

Until next month, Happy Reading!

Ashley
